Double Spiral Newgrange Necklace
This double spiral Newgrange necklace is a unique contemporary design inspired by the megalithic art work at Newgrange (Brú na Bóinne in Gaelic), a Neolithic passage tomb built with precise astronomical alignment to the sun, over 5000 years ago. The art is one of the most remarkable features of the Newgrange monument. Some of it is a spectacular combinations of spirals, lozenges, chevrons, triangles and arrangements of parallel lines and arcs art work.
There are many theories as to the meaning of the carvings; the most popular representing the cycles of the sun.
The single spiral, believed to represent the sun.
The double spiral representing the sun’s journey over the course of the year.
The Triskele (triple spiral) is believed to represent the unity of the elements of earth; air, fire and water.
